Ailee & Barry’s incredible boho-inspired campground wedding was EVERYTHING!
When we got married, my husband and I tossed around renting out campground overlooking the Chesapeake Bay, where we adventured on our fourth— yes, fourth!— date. Campgrounds can be rented for long periods at cheap rates, guests can stay in the cabins after the wedding, and we could have a safe afterparty without needing to provide shuttles. Plus, some Pennsylvania campgrounds are hidden gems.
We ended up going in another direction, but still sometimes I dream about that campground wedding! I was way too excited for this earthy, boho wedding so I could vicariously live my KOA dream.
After months of planning and replanning their Covid wedding, Ailee and Barry finally got to celebrate their day on their family’s campground at the Philadelphia / West Chester KOA and it was perfect.
Ailee is a talented graphic designer and photographer (heck yeah, the stakes were high this day!) and she handmade so many of their wedding day elements. She went heavy on the neutrals, bringing bright pops of terra-cotta and warm tones throughout their campground decor.
What I loved most about this West Chester wedding was that although the ceremony was being held in an alternative event space, the couple’s family and vendor team transformed a so-so campground into a chic wedding venue. Twinkle lights, eucalyptus, and pampas grass gave the space a high class feel. The champagne wall and florals by Made by Meredyth transformed a wide open, Pennsylvania campsite into a unique venue.
You’d never know by the photos, but just 10 days prior to their wedding, the entire West Chester area was underwater. Flooded! Hurricane Ida ripped through the campsite and the couple watched the Brandywine pour into their future reception space. In some places the river rose over 20 feet.
The aftermath of Ida was still very much apparent as we drove backroads to get to a secluded first look location where Barry met Ailee just down the road from the campground. After the stress of a pandemic, hurricane winds, record flood waters, and hand designing all of their details, the two decided to see each other before their ceremony so they could spend as much time as possible enjoying their party! Catch Barry’s face below upon seeing Ailee in her wedding dress for the first time.
This stunner of a day was featured on Zola’s Real Weddings and over on Wedding Wire. Huge shoutout to the team below for making this couple’s wedding a dream come true!
