If I listed all the things that make me extremely happy, wedding photographs and brunch would both certainly be close to the top of that list, and this brunch wedding at Platform Thirty pulled all the stops. There is absolutely nothing wrong with breaking tradition and hosting your wedding at 11am on a Saturday morning. Jenny and Frankie’s Manayunk wedding was a knockout. It thoroughly convinced me even more that the less your wedding follows the norm, the more it speaks to who you really are.
Venue Highlights
Platform Thirty at Beat Street Station is literally a train stop in the heart of Manayunk, one of the most unique neighborhoods in Philadelphia. The ceremony, officiated by Jenny’s uncle, was followed by a cocktail hour of mimosas and bacon on a stick. Honestly, I could stop there, amiright?
Effortlessly, Platform Thirty is the perfect backdrop for an alternative wedding. The exposed brick and industrial style reception area make it feel high end even without any added personal flair. A little black and purple went a long way amongst a sea of hand dyed wooden roses and drippy candles. These small but crucial details gave this wedding an edge. Then they went and made their grunge-chic decor interactive: their guests joined them in their first dance on a literal cloud, thanks to Xtreme Event Group. A fog machine was a very simple addition that left their guests feeling ready to party— even in the middle of the afternoon.
A Not So Grand Exit
While I loved absolutely everything about the decor, the dance floor, the party… the food (at 9 months pregnant, pancakes are where it’s at) what really made this wedding is that the newlyweds got to enjoy every single bit of it. They soaked up every drop of fun. Rather than pull them for traditional newlywed portraits, we opted to adventure into Center City after all their guests had left. Frankie and Jenny were able to truly be present. Photos were not a production. And though it was a very blustery, cold day in the wind tunnel that is Philadelphia’s City Hall, we were able to create gorgeous heirloom photographs… without the stress of a cake cutting, speeches, or sparkler exit rushing us.
Traditional is cool, but I hope Jenny and Frankie inspire you to think outside the box if you’ve found yourself with something sparkly on your finger this year. When it comes to your day, there are no rules, and there are ways to pump up the party even if you’re planning something unique.
Enjoy,
BP
