Golden Outdoor Newborn Session | Wilmington Delaware Photographer

Oh hey, welcome back to the blog! Sharing this amazing outdoor newborn session with you in the hopes that these can become the only thing I shoot. Just kidding. Kind of.

Honestly, before COVID hit , the idea of an outdoor newborn session intrigued me, but never really crossed my mind enough to do the dang thing. Now, I’m seriously wondering why the heck I never did it before. I’m bracing my poor heart for the change in the seasons; it will be a long winter without these sweet little ones on golden summer evenings!

Elle and Trevor were mid-move to Europe when we scheduled their newborn session for Baby Felix. The date we had originally planned, a tornado— yes, a freakin’ tornado— rolled through and flood waters washed out the bottom of our street so badly people lost their mailboxes and cars floated up the road. When we rescheduled, Elle and Trevor had no electricity due to the storm and the heat was crazy! Outdoors wasn’t just a possibility, it was our only option— and I am so, so glad.

Because of COVID, this little fam has been split during their move across the ocean. This mama is by far one of the strongest women I know. Being a new mom is really, really hard. Breastfeeding? Hardest thing someone can do. Taking on a pandemic, moving to another country, breastfeeding and still remaining the serene, down to earth person she is? That’s inspiring, is what it is. As our session went along, I wanted to try to capture the light that radiates off of these two as a couple, not just as parents. I think what they’re going through is a lesson for all of us in patience and dedication.

Elle and Trevor got married on Elle’s grandmother’s property and being able to capture the arrival of their first child on the same stretch of land they said their vows on was not only beautiful, but so powerful. Even though they’re off to Finland (with its tiny population and its much better grip on this insane illness), I hope they look back on this and remember how strong their family was during this crazy, wild ride out of the states.
