My husband and I did absolutely everything backwards.
On Christmas Eve, Peyton got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Our newborn was asleep in my arms. I had just quit my social work career to launch BP full time. We were still unpacking from our move into our first house. Oh, and we just adopted a puppy.
Shortly after we got engaged, our grandparents' health started to decline. We realized that while we wanted a beautiful wedding day, no amount of frills could replace having them with us. We did not have time to waste pinning down the perfect date, saving up for the perfect gown, searching for the perfect venue, or scrambling over centerpieces. So, we planned a perfectly imperfect wedding. In 6 months. For 180 Irish kin. With a 5K budget.

Always the photographer, not yet the bride, I kept expecting vendors to be excited for us! But, as soon as vendors heard the words "small, intimate, wedding," the relationship soured. It was right then that I realized the BP difference:
Look, ultimately you hire a photographer so that you can be present in the moments you will experience only once. That's why we take photographs— not for Pinterest, likes, or bragging rights. I don't photograph weddings for the flowers, or the venue, the glitz and glam. I photograph them because I love the couples I work with. Having vendors that you love and who love YOU is so important to the success of your day. Your photographer's technical skills should not be the only thing they provide. Magazines and awards are cool, but do you like them as a person? Will they add to your day, or simply document it? Hiring a photographer that you can laugh with and cry in front of is how the best photos are created. It IS the difference between photos you like, and photos you will share with generations to come.

I always said that we had to hire a photographer who I'd be comfortable seeing me naked (because, let's be real--chances are your photographer WILL see you at least partially naked at some point on your wedding day; and even if they don't, this is still a pretty good litmus test for how comfy you are with a person, and comfiness matters when it comes to someone whose job it is to make you look not-completely-awkward in photos). Aubrey IS THAT PERSON. Part photographer, part extra bridesmaid, part family drama-destroyer. Just call her a superhero. Also, her photos are perfect. Just do yourself a favor and hire her.

Aubrey was great! She was flexible, kind, and knows how to get the best out of the people she's shooting.
